Who’s the French A R Rahman fan who sang for her idol and won the internet?

A R Rahman’s music album ‘Vande Mataram’ continues to instil patriotic fervour among Indians and remains a personal favourite for many across the country. Recently, a French fan of the Indian music maestro took to the streets and performed the album’s hit title song ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ in front of her idol in Dubai.

A visibly happy Rahman captured the surprise performance on his mobile phone. The French singer Celindee Matahari sought Rahman’s permission before she started singing the song accompanied by a ukelele. She later took to her Instagram page and shared her experience singing for the music maestro.

“It was such an honor finally meeting the legend A R Rahman. Thank you for letting me sing for you,” she wrote on her Instagram page. Many people praised Rahman for his humility and also Matahari’s performance. The video went viral and received over one million likes.

Celinedee Mataharai named after Celine Dion

The singer who is settled in Dubai was born to an Indonesian ‘music-loving’ mother and a French ‘keyboard-playing’ father, as per her official page. The singer says her parents named her Celinedee after her mother Purwanti met the ‘My Heart Goes On’ vocalist when she had arrived in Dubai for a press conference.

“Celine Dion, who was having fertility treatment at the time, noticed then heavily-pregnant Purwanti and stopped her to enquire about how the baby (then unborn Celine) was doing. Straight after that encounter, a name was obviously found for the baby!,” according to the Celinedee’s official page.
